Assistive Technology for Employment Centre

The Assistive Technology for Employment Centre (ATEC) is a joint project of the Neil Squire Society and the Vancouver Foundation's Disability Supports for Employment Fund. The Vancouver Foundation manages this $20 million dollar endowment from the Government of British Columbia.

ATEC provides the following services on a fee-for-service basis.

  • Assistive technology assessments by an Assistive Technology Specialist.
  • Equipment trials to enable clients to try different technologies.
  • Training in the operation of assistive technology.

ATEC targets occupations that incorporate computer operation within office and related environments.

Assistive Technology

Assistive technology is specialized equipment that enables people who have a disability, or who are experiencing difficulty using standard equipment, to continue to operate a computer. Through the use of this assistive technology people can keep working or regain employment. The assistive technology ranges from alternative keyboards and pointing devices to height adjustable workstations, voice recognition software, and a variety of other alternative inputting methods.
